The Council

Learn more about our Superbrand East Africa Council.

The Superbrands' stories are fascinating. But there is more to discover, as the members of the Superbrands Council* give their perspectives on just what it is that makes a Superbrand. The Council comprises some of East Africa's most eminent media and communications executives, along with some of the sharpest business minds in the country. Here, they each share their deep appreciation of what constitutes that rare and so valuable thing – a Superbrand.

Our thanks are extended to the individuals who make up the Superbrands Council* for Volume I and who contributed their time and energies to qualify the brands to be invited to participate. Similarly, we greatly appreciate the contribution of time and resources from the brand owners as we pulled together all the material required to present their stories.

* The Superbrands Council is made up of eminent and experienced individuals from marketing and business. They are independent, and their involvement is voluntary, and they do not grade brands with which they are associated or compete. Every Council member has a deep appreciation of what constitutes a great brand.

Superbrands was founded by advertising executive Marcel Knobil in London, UK in 1994. It began as a radio show on GLR (now BBC Radio London), which was aimed at giving ordinary customers an insight into the significant brands that touched their lives. Due to the success of the show the Superbrand organization was founded in 1995.

In each country that Superbrands operates in, it elects a Superbrands Council, which usually comprises industry experts and practitioners, which selects the top brands under various categories and awards them the status of "Superbrands".
